Lindsey continued on saying “It’s amazing how God works and how much He was in the situation … before then, we just all did a lot of talking about the group thing and honestly it was mostly just talk.  We were all involved in other groups and doing dates here and there, but it was never anything solid.  The minute Cliff heard ‘Run On,’ we decided right there it was time to go.”

7 Sons of Soul reveal their higher purpose all shunning the chance to record secular music. Jones who is well known in mainstream music circles, as both a producer and manager has worked with several top selling artists including Dru Hill, Ginuwine, Gladys Knight and Will Smith, says he’d never sing R&B. “Although I’ve been a part of managing different groups and have been offered R&B deals; I’m convicted to stay true to what I’m called to do and I can only record Gospel music … I love Gospel, it’s in my heart … it’s a part of me,” said Jones.

Included on the 14-track album is the moving “Daddy Proud” co-written by Jones whose achingly personal vocals and testimony about this song pulls right at your heart strings. “The song came about after my father passed in 1998 and I was telling my writing partner Harold Garvin about a time when I was in LA and just going through … nothing was going right, I was frustrated, I couldn’t talk to anybody.  My father left me a message (which you hear on the song) to encourage me.  A month after he left that message he passed and I was so glad I kept the message.”

Additionally featured is the awesome re-make of the Walter Hawkins jam, “What Is This” with label mate Fred Hammond and RFC vocalist PamKenyon Donald.

Also hot on the album is one of Gray’s favorites, the harmonious ballad, “He’s So Real.”  “The song simply speaks to God’s greatness,” said Gray. “God is often depicted as a stoic and upright symbol, but He’s so much more than that … He is real and we’re a product of Him.”   Jones cites “He’s Coming Back” as his personal favorite, which is another distinctive quartet-sounding hit that covers the group’s musical and emotional range.  “The song talks about His return … this is the time to get things right,” said Jones. “We just wanted to speak to people who are confused or making the wrong decisions … to remind them that He is coming back and it’s time to really prepare ourselves.”

Lindsey is hard pressed to find a favorite, describing the album as an amazing collaboration of styles, genres, influences and musical talent. “The album deals with everyday life … from ‘Need You’ to ‘He’s Coming Back’ there are songs for all situations.  It deals with how to approach God to how to get the answers we need from Him.”

Gray sums it up saying “7 Sons of Soul’s music carries a message of hope, a message of vindication and restoration … regardless of where you’ve been, as long as you run on you can see what the end is going to be and see that He is real.”

The energetic and inspiring debut Self-titled release, 7 Sons of Soul will be available in-stores everywhere March 23, 2004.
