Page 1 of 2 Touching, moving, important, relevant, inspiring … the list of ways that has described Fred Hammond’s powerful music ministry can go on and on. This time, it is one simple word that expresses the full breadth of emotion at the core of Hammond’s own heart. It’s the word most often used, yet almost always most difficult to define … that word is LOVE. This summer, Fred Hammond lets everyone know that there is “Somethin’ ‘Bout Love.”
At the very foundation of the message of Jesus Christ it speaks about love and this new project is all about it – God’s love to us; our love to God; and most certainly our love to one another. Hammond strips away all the extras to intimately reveal a portrait of a man who seeks the perfect love of Christ and strives to replicate that love to others.
To that end, the first single off the album “Celebrate (He Lives)” is an undeniable smash that proclaims the ultimate love of God (John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”). Making waves on TV and radio, this song gets you from the very first note. The hard hitting bass line and the simplicity of the message make this song a direct hit and remind us why we celebrate – that our Savior was crucified and He has risen!
Never before has an album touched at a personal testimony in a way that makes sense for everyone. “Somethin’ ‘Bout Love,” borne out of recent experiences, Hammond offers songs like “That’s Why,” “What Can I Give” and “A Closer Walk” which lyrically are so personal that his own gratefulness and passion for God is exposed. Another hit-in-the-making, “Loved On Me,” is simply an all-out jam that features an infectious beat daring anyone not to get up and groove to its celebration vibe.
A wide-reaching project the tome also includes unexpected, yet fitting collaborations such as the re-make of the Stevie Wonder classic “Love’s In Need,” featuring Musiq and Hezekiah Walker’s Love Fellowship Choir and the wonderfully narrative “Lord, We Need Your Love,” featuring the powerful vocals of Marvin Winans Sr. and Brian McKnight.
