He first taught us how to pronounce his name, then he taught us how to breathe … today, TONEX teaches us how to be ourselves … how to come ‘out the box.’

TONEX, is the much talked about, the much hyped and scrutinized 20-something musical prodigy that has mesmerized audiences all over the world. He’s been lauded and criticized and has yet remained himself throughout the process.  For every battle he’s faced, TONEX has relied on his two best weapons; the unyielding power of God and the anointing and talent that propel his musical genius. Raised in holiness, his parents, District Elder Anthony & Betty Williams are the Pastor and Co-Pastor of Truth Apostolic Community Church (P.A.W. California District council #19) in Spring Valley, California. Currently, TONEX serves as the Assistant Pastor and along with wife Yvette Williams; they are the Executive Directors of Music Ministry at the church.  Building off the Godly foundation that his parents have set for him, has been TONEX’s key in the freedom of expression that people have come to know.

In 1997, an album that changed the gospel music industry forever entitled "Pronounced Toe-Nay" was released on Rescue Records, an independent Christian label in San Diego. That album catapulted TONEX into Gospel music super-stardom.  So cutting edge was the album that it demanded attention from key industry insiders including the 14th Annual Stellar Awards show.  Putting a virtually unknown artist from an independent label on the program was unheard of at the time, and TONEX’s performance made such an impact; that it has been compared to Michael’s Jackson’s performance of “Billie Jean” on the Motown 25th Anniversary Special in 1983.   That performance kicked off a long feeding frenzy to sign this explosive artist that Verity/Jive Records eventually won … before long the once unavailable classic album was re-released on September 26, 2000.

The year 2002 saw the arrival of TONEX’s follow up album, “O2,” a critical success that media, fans and radio immediately embraced. The album which USA TODAY gave 3 out of 4 stars;  birthed two hit songs “Bout A Thang,” and the monumental church anthem “God Has Not 4Got.”  Speaking to a nation still reeling after 9-11, “God Has Not 4Got.” spoke right to our hearts and encouraged our souls.  The song was nominated that year for a Stellar Award for “Song of The Year” and has been a mainstay at Gospel radio since its release. That same year, TONEX received five additional Stellar Award nominations and won in the category of Hip Hop CD of the YEAR.
