NEWS: VERITY’S 1-2-3 PUNCH ON THIS WEEK’S BILLBOARD GOSPEL CHART   PDF  Print  E-mail

Popular Artist FRED HAMMOND Tops The Chart At Number 1 With Label Mates TONEX and Smash Compilation WOW Gospel Numbers 2 and 3

New York, NY (June 16, 2004) – Heralded as his best album ever, FRED HAMMOND, a perennial Gospel favorite, is enjoying his 4TH Number One album of his career with the release of “SOMETHIN’ ‘BOUT LOVE,”  which entered in the top slot on  both the Billboard Top 40 Gospel Chart and the Contemporary Christian Chart

The much anticipated release was spurred on early this year with the smash song “Celebrate (He Lives)” and drove the album to an impressive debut on the music magazine’s Top R&B and Top 200 Charts entering at #4 and #35 respectively.

Hammond, the Platinum selling artist who many credit as the foundation of today’s Contemporary Gospel, is the quintessential songwriter/producer who has won countless awards and is responsible for amazing Gospel mainstays as “No Weapon,” “Let The Praise Begin” and “Jesus Be A Fence.”   The bassist who began his career over 20 years ago playing for the legendary Winans Family, has since made history both with his time as lead singer of COMMISSIONED as well as with his stellar solo career.

“Somethin’ ‘Bout Love,” a project that as its title suggests is all about love – loving God, God’s love for us, and of course loving one another.  It is one of those epic collections of music that has revealed Hammond’s personal testimony all while touching a chord with audiences across the board. Key cuts on the album include collaborations with Brian McKnight & Marvin Winans on “Lord, We Need Your Love,” and Musiq on the Stevie Wonder-classic “Love’s In Need.”   The current single, “Celebrate (He Lives),” destined to become an Easter Sunday classic, was helped along with key television appearances including BET’s “Celebration of Gospel,” 106 & Park and on the upcoming NBC primetime special “Apollo At 70: A Hot Night In Harlem” which airs this Saturday, June 19th nationwide.

Holding down the Number 2 and 3 spots strong are the powerful 2-CD set from Gospel’s next new star TONEX with “OUT THE BOX,” and the ever-popular and much honored gospel compilation project “WOW GOSPEL 2004.”

Verity’s Number 1, 2 & 3 albums are all available in stores now. And, look out for VERITY THE FIRST DECADE Volumes 1 & 2, two special edition double-CD sets highlighting the label’s long and storied success of hits which will be in stores June 22, 2004.
